At Legacy Pen House, our engraving service transforms exceptional writing instruments into deeply personal treasures, whether you are marking a milestone, honouring a loved one, or simply making your pen unmistakably yours.

Complimentary engraving is included on all orders over $200. For orders under $200, our engraving service is available for a flat fee of $25.

Engraving Options & Font Selection

We offer a curated selection of fonts chosen specifically for legibility and elegance at small scale on metal and resin surfaces. Each font has been tested across hundreds of pen models to ensure a crisp, beautiful result:

• Copperplate: A timeless, formal script ideal for full names and dedications. This is our most popular choice for executive gifts.
• Edwardian Script: Flowing and ornate, with graceful ascenders and descenders. Perfect for monograms and short inscriptions.
• Garamond: A classic serif typeface that lends quiet sophistication. Excellent for initials and dates.
• Futura: Clean, modern, and geometric. A strong choice for contemporary professionals who prefer understated elegance.
• Shelley Allegro: An expressive calligraphic script with dramatic flourishes. Ideal for commemorative inscriptions and gifts of significance.
• Optima: A refined sans-serif with subtle stroke variation, bridging the classical and the modern. Favoured for corporate gifts.

Character Limits

• Cap band engraving: Up to 25 characters (including spaces)
• Barrel engraving: Up to 40 characters (including spaces)
• Clip engraving: Up to 10 characters — best suited for initials or monograms

Character limits vary by pen model and engraving location. If your chosen inscription exceeds the available space, our team will contact you before proceeding to discuss alternatives.

What Can Be Engraved

Not all pen surfaces are suitable for engraving, and the options depend on the specific model and its materials. In general, we can engrave on:

• Metal cap bands: The most common location. Works beautifully on sterling silver, palladium, stainless steel, and gold-plated bands.
• Metal barrels: Available on pens with full-metal construction, such as the Parker Sonnet Stainless Steel or the Caran d'Ache Ecridor.
• Resin and lacquer barrels: Select models only. Our team uses a diamond-drag technique that cuts cleanly into hard resin without cracking or chipping.
• Clips: Available on pens with flat, sufficiently wide clips. Ideal for a discreet monogram.

We do not engrave on celluloid, ebonite, wood, or Maki-e lacquer surfaces, as these materials require specialised techniques that may compromise the finish. If you are unsure whether your chosen pen can be engraved, our team is happy to advise.

Turnaround & Process

Engraved orders are processed within 2-3 business days before shipping. During peak seasons (November through January), please allow an additional 1-2 business days. When you place your order, simply select the engraving option, enter your desired text, and choose your preferred font. Our engraving specialists will review the order for fit and legibility before beginning work.

You will receive a confirmation email with a digital proof of your engraving layout. If any adjustments are needed, we will reach out before proceeding.

Caring for Your Engraved Pen

Engraved text is permanent, but a little care will keep it looking sharp for decades. Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishing compounds on the engraved area, as these can gradually wear the inscription. A soft, dry microfibre cloth is all you need. For engraved sterling silver pens, gentle silver polish applied around the engraving — not over it — will maintain the lustre without affecting the text.
