Built to Last, Not to Discard

In a world of disposable pens and single-use everything, choosing a fine writing instrument is itself an act of sustainability. A well-made fountain pen can last a lifetime — and often several lifetimes. It is refillable, repairable, and designed to be used for decades. At Legacy Pen House, we believe this ethos of permanence is worth championing, and we are committed to operating our business in a way that reflects it.

Sustainable Packaging

We have taken a hard look at every material in our shipping process and made changes that reduce waste without compromising the protection your pen deserves:

• Outer shipping boxes: Made from 100% recycled corrugated cardboard, printed with soy-based inks
• Protective fill: We have eliminated plastic bubble wrap entirely. Our protective fill is made from recycled kraft paper and is fully recyclable and compostable.
• Packing tape: Water-activated kraft paper tape, recyclable with your cardboard
• Invoices and inserts: Printed on FSC-certified paper. We also offer paperless invoicing — select the option at checkout to receive your invoice by email only.

Our signature gift boxes are designed to be kept and reused. The rigid construction and elegant finish make them ideal for storing pens, jewellery, or keepsakes long after the unboxing.

Carbon-Neutral Shipping

Since 2025, all Legacy Pen House shipments — domestic and international — have been carbon neutral. We partner with verified carbon offset programmes that fund reforestation, renewable energy, and methane capture projects. The cost of offsetting is borne by us, not passed on to our customers. Every order confirmation includes a note with details of the offset contribution associated with your shipment.

Repair & Restoration Programme

We believe the most sustainable pen is the one you already own. Our repair and restoration programme keeps writing instruments out of landfills and in daily use:

• Nib tuning and adjustment: Restore perfect writing performance to a scratchy, dry, or misaligned nib
• Filling mechanism service: Piston, vacuum, and converter mechanisms cleaned, re-lubricated, and tested
• Cosmetic restoration: Barrel polishing, clip tightening, trim refinishing, and replacement of worn seals and gaskets
• Vintage pen service: We work with specialist restorers to bring vintage and antique pens back to daily-writer condition

To arrange a repair, contact us at repairs@legacypenhouse.com with a description of the issue and photos if possible. Most repairs are completed within 7-10 business days.

Brand Partnerships & Industry Advocacy

We actively seek partnerships with manufacturers who share our sustainability values:

• Lamy manufactures in Heidelberg, Germany, powered by 100% renewable energy and has committed to climate-neutral production across its entire range.
• Caran d'Ache operates a zero-waste factory in Geneva, Switzerland, where 99.5% of production waste is recycled or recovered.
• Pilot has developed plant-based resin pen bodies and refill cartridges made from recycled plastic as part of its ongoing environmental initiatives.

We are also a member of the Sustainable Luxury Coalition, working with other premium retailers to establish industry-wide standards for responsible sourcing and low-impact operations.

What You Can Do

Choosing a refillable pen over disposables is a meaningful step, and there is more you can do:

• Use bottled ink and converters instead of single-use cartridges where possible — one 60ml bottle replaces approximately 50 cartridges
• Repair before you replace. Our team can advise on whether a repair is worthwhile.
• Pass pens along. A pen you no longer use may be the start of someone else's collection.
