Our Commitment to Accessibility
Legacy Pen House is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves a first-class shopping experience, and we continually work to improve the usability and accessibility of our digital platforms.
Conformance Standard
Our website is designed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), are the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. They cover a wide range of recommendations for making web content more accessible to people with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.
Specific measures we have implemented include:
- Semantic HTML: Proper heading structure, landmark regions, and meaningful link text throughout the site
- Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements — including menus, filters, cart actions, and checkout forms — are fully operable via keyboard
- Screen reader compatibility: ARIA labels, roles, and live regions are used where appropriate to ensure a clear and logical experience with assistive technology
- Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Responsive design: The site adapts to various screen sizes and supports text resizing up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- Alt text: All product images and informational graphics include descriptive alternative text
- Form labels: All form inputs have associated labels, and error messages are clearly identified and described
Known Limitations
While we strive for full compliance, we are aware of certain areas where improvements are ongoing:
- Some older PDF documents (product catalogues uploaded before 2025) may not be fully screen-reader accessible. We are working to remediate these and will replace them with accessible versions as they are updated.
- Third-party embedded content, such as video players and social media widgets, may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We work with our vendors to advocate for improvements.
- Some complex product filtering interactions are being refined for improved screen reader announcements.
Assistive Technology Tested
We regularly test our website with the following assistive technologies:
- NVDA and JAWS screen readers on Windows
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- TalkBack on Android
- Browser zoom at 200% and 400%
- Keyboard-only navigation
