The Vintage Montblanc No. 224 Coral Red Fountain Pen is a rare fountain pen produced in Denmark during the 1930s–1940s. Created specifically for the Scandinavian market, this distinctive model represents an important chapter in Montblanc’s early history and is seldom found in today’s collectors’ market. During this period, high import duties on luxury goods prompted Montblanc to manufacture select models locally in Copenhagen for distribution throughout Scandinavia. As a result, Danish-made Montblanc pens developed their own unique identity, most notably through their vibrant Coral Red celluloid construction and the use of alternative filling systems not commonly found on German-made models. This Model 224 features a beautifully marbled Coral Red celluloid barrel and cap, showcasing the warm depth and character that make vintage celluloid one of the most admired materials among fountain pen collectors. The pen is fitted with a 14-karat solid gold #4 Medium (M) nib, offering the smooth, expressive writing experience for which vintage Montblanc nibs are renowned. Unlike Montblanc’s traditional piston fillers, this Danish model utilizes a push knob (button) filling mechanism, operating with an internal rubber ink sac. This distinctive filling system further distinguishes the pen from its German counterparts and highlights its historical significance.
